                           Metaphor

Metaphor is a comparison between two unlike things in a speech where the point of similarity is not clearly stated. Here two unlike things are compared to each other. Only the point of similarity or resemblance is not clearly stated but implied or suggested. It is where a Metaphor differs from Simile. In case of a simile the point of similarity is explicit or clearly stated. A Metaphor is less expressive but more suggestive than Simile. Metaphor is a rhetorically ambitious use of words, you may have to work a little to find the meaning in a metaphor. A metaphor is an imaginative way of describing something by referring to something else which is the same in a particular way.

Example: "You are a lion."

"Life is a candle."

The first example does't suggest that the person is a lion, rather it suggests the person is as brave as a lion. Similarly the second example implies that life is as short as a candle.
